Weekend Planner: Aug. 19-21

Audition to sing at Fenway Park, turtle trekking event and free caricatures on the calendar this weekend.

The weekend is just around the corner. If the only plans you have are not to stay home because lounging on the couch and watching TV just don’t cut it anymore, then don't worry, Medfield Patch is here to assist you! Check out our list of suggestions of events to attend, places to go, sites to see – all within driving distance of home. 

1. Audition to Sing the National Anthem at Fenway Park

Where/When: 450 Aiken St, Lowell; Friday, Sunday, Aug. 21, noon to 2 p.m.

Why Go: 93.7 Mike FM’s “Oh Say Can You Sing” contest, sponsored by DCU, is giving one talented singer the chance to perform the National Anthem on Tuesday, Sept.15, in front of a sold out crowd at Fenway Park. To audition, join the station on Sunday, Aug. 21, from noon to 2:00 p.m. at LeLacheur Park, 450 Aiken St., Lowell, home of the Lowell Spinners.

One lucky winner, as chosen by voters, will sing the National Anthem on Tuesday, Sept. 15th at Fenway Park prior to the game at Fenway. In addition, a singer, chosen by the panel of judges, will perform the anthem at that evening’s Lowell Spinners game. Space is extremely limited and all auditions end exactly at 2 p.m. Early arrival is suggested and participants should be prepared to sing a cappella.

Pricing: Free and open to all.

2.  Sherborn Inn Presents Saturday Night Music by Brogue

When/Where: 33 N Main St., Sherborn (Sherborn Inn); Saturday, Aug. 20, 9 p.m. to midnight.

Why Go: The Sherborn Inn will host Brogue as part of its Saturday Night Live music series.

3.  Friends in the Fields at Powisset Farm

Where/When: 39 Powisset St, Dover; Saturday, Aug. 20, 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Why Go: Come get your hands dirty in the Powisset Farm fields, helping them to plant, weed, and harvest, or with a variety of other farm projects. For all ages and skills. 4. Free Caricature Art Offered at Patriot Place

Where/When: , 2 Patriot Pl, Foxborough; Friday, Aug. 19, 11 a.m.

Why Go: It's Summer Sensation Time at Patriot Place. Starting at 11 a.m. Caricature Artists will be available to turn a blank sheet of paper into a humorous caricature sketch in minutes. Choose from either full-color or black and white sketches. Event is located at the Patriot Place Activity Center, next to Baskin Robbins and across from Kidville.

Pricing: Free.

5. Turtle Trekkers Program at Stony Brook

Where/When: 108 North St, Norfolk (Stony Brook); Saturday, Aug. 20, 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Why Go: Start your weekend off right with a fun and knowledgeable Stony Brook teacher on the trails learning about nature. There will be crafts, activities and lots of laughter.  Ages 2 to 6 must be accompanied with a parent. Pre-registration is required for all programs.
