Regional Roundup: EBT Controversy, Heroin Arrests and NBA Players Bowling at Kings

Norwood Police arrested five suspects on Friday for heroin-related charges, according to a press release published to the Norwood Police Facebook page.

Friday morning Detective John Gover obtained a search warrant for the apartment of Costello, at 872 Washington Street. Shortly after noon, uniformed officers and detectives executed the warrant and found a small amount of heroin, syringes, used packaging and drug paraphernalia. Costello was charged with unlawful possession of heroin.

Thursday marked the end of this year's MEMO summer concert series.

"Songs for Ceilidh" filled the grounds of the town gazebo with lively Celtic music as well as Cape Breton-inspired originals on a pleasant summer evening.

A carpenter working at a residential worksite at 3 Valley Rd. in Dover accidentally severed three of his fingers with a chop saw, according to Dover Police.

At first it was thought that the fingers would be lost, but Dover Police Officer Nicole Bratcher said that the wounded man was transported to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, where he is undergoing surgery to reattach the fingers.

New Boston Celtic guard Jason Terry let loose with fellow NBA players including Wizards PG John Wall and Orlando Magic PG Jameer Nelson in the private "King Pin" room at Kings Lanes in Dedham, MA.

The players enjoyed great food and showed off their skills on the lanes. When asked if the Celtics were going to win the championship this year, Jason Terry was happy to show his confidence by showing off his brand new tattoo featuring "Lucky," the Celtics mascot hoisting the championship trophy on his finger.

Andrea Taber, owner of the Ever So Humble Pie Company in East Walpole is taking a stand against patrons of the Braintree Farmer's Market using EBT cards to buy her sweets, according to an article in today's Boston Herald.

"I have said that I would prefer not to take taxpayer money for my particular products," Taber told the tabloid. "The EBT program, or the SNAP benefits, it's the old food stamp program, and they're originally designed to provide nutritional foods for folks who can't afford to buy them on their own. Fruits, vegetables, meat, eggs, cheese, products like that. What we make are a luxury or a gourmet dessert, which does not fit that criteria. And I just don't believe that the taxpayers money should be spent buying luxury or gourmet desserts for people who are having trouble putting nutritional food on their table in the first place."
