Meet 'Louie' the Golden Retriever

The Medfield Animal Shelter is helping Louie find a new home.

Louie is not at the Medfield Animal Shelter but it is helping the golden retriever find a new home.

If you are interested in adopting him, fill out an adoption application with the Medfield Animal Shelter. Only people that have submitted an application will be considered.

Louie is a 1.5-year-old Golden Retriever in need of a new home. He is a typical Golden in that he has never met a stranger. He is being given up because his current owner feels he would be happier with a larged fenced yard and lots of walks, rather than living in a condo. She walks him three times a day, but thinks he also needs the freedom of having a yard to roam. This is the description she has provided the Medfield Animal Shelter:

"We are recent empty-nesters. Our family dog passed away in the fall. We were heartbroken but decided to wait until spring to look for another dog. We have recently moved to a condo and thought it would work out because we are surrounded by great trails and Louie loves his walks. The problem is he has nowhere to go outside and enjoy freedom in our unit. We have a fenced in small garden and a deck. His previous owners had an older golden who didn't bond with Louie thus they gave him up. They did have a doggie door and a nice fenced in yard where Louie was free to come and go and I think that is what he misses. He is TOTALLY housebroken, doesn't chew furniture, and other than wanting attention, is lovely to be around. He sits on command, walks wonderfully on and off-leash and once he trusted me, will come when walking off leash. He makes up to other dogs and people with no problems including a few little tiny tots we have met on walks. Bottom line, we love him but feel it is too restricting for him and us. We want him in a loving home where he will get a lot of attention and not be left alone all day. He has all his shots, including lyme disease vaccine and I have lots of toys to share as well."

If you are interested in adopting Louie, please fill out our dog adoption application. Louie's adoption fee is $400. With very few exceptions, dogs are happiest and the most well-behaved when they receive daily exercise and ongoing training, so it is always prefer to place dogs with families who are willing to make a commitment to both.
