Grab & Go Kids Planner: Time To Celebrate

The last weekend of August promises lots of chances for family fun. Watch a play in Sherborn, check out hot rods in Boston or celebrate St. Anthony in the North End.

As Hurricane Irene becomes the first hurricane to threaten the U.S. in three years, its a good time to review your family emergency plan. Current weather reports predict that the hurricane could impact New England by Sunday evening. The American Red Cross offers some great tips on being prepared.
The Dover-Sherborn Summer Drama Program will dazzle audiences one again with its musical, Godspell, at the Sherborn Community Center (3 Sanger St, Sherborn) for four nights from August 24–27 at 8 p.m. The show includes a cast of thirty students in grades 7-12 and features familiar songs such as "Day by Day", "Prepare Ye", "All for the Best", and "Beautiful City".Tickets are $15 each and will be on sale soon at Eaton/Walgreens Sherborn and The Dover Market and The Dover Deli, Dover. 
Bring your comfy lawn chairs, cozy blankets for a free showing of Toy Story 3 on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 6:30 p.m. Pizza and popcorn will be available for purchase at Memorial Field (609 Webster, Street, Needham). Plus the kids can run around the fun house or get their face painted. The movie begins at 7:35. Rain date is August 28. All families are asked to bring an item to donate to the Needham Community Council Food Pantry. Items most needed are listed at.
Take the kids to go see children's musician Carrie Rowan & her Merry-go-music pals on Saturday at the Amazing Things Arts Center in Framingham. The show is from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 for non-members and $8 for members.
The St. Anthony's Feast in the North End of Boston (Endicott Street) is celebrated each year on the last weekend in August including this Friday, Saturday and Sunday from noon to 11 p.m. Begun in 1919, by Italian immigrants from the small town of Montefalcione in Avellino, Saint Anthony’s Feast has become the largest Italian Religious Festival in New England. Named the “Feast of all Feasts” by National Geographic Magazine, this authentic Italian street festival has it all for people of every age: parades, strolling singers, live entertainment, contests and religious services are held daily. Note: This event may be cancelled on Sunday due to the storm.
