Grab & Go Kids Planner: Summertime Arts

Enjoy the classical work of Shakespeare under the stars in Boston or be amazed by the stunts and tricks of young circus performers in Waltham this weekend.

  • Think two shows for the price of one! Big grins all around for Jeff Jam, a friendly, goofy guy who travels New England bringing songs and music to all. He’ll be at Amazing Things Art Center (160 Hollis Street, Framingham) on Saturday, July 30 at 10:30 a.m. You can also catch some magic and illusion with Todd Migliacci “New England’s Favorite Magician and Boston’s No. 1 Magician.”  Tickets are $10.
  • See the international, award-winning, traveling Circus Smirkus at Gore Place (52 Gore Street, Waltham) on Saturday, July 30 (1 & 6 p.m. shows) or Sunday, July 31 (11 a.m. show). Kids ages 11 to 18 are stars, on highwire and trapeze, as clowns, jugglers, acrobats and more. Every year, they choose a new storyline and develop an original full-length show that combines the best of traditional and contemporary circus styles. Tickets are $25/adults and $19 for kids.
  • Tanglewood Marionettes is a nationally touring marionette theater based in New England. You can catch a performance for free at the Newton Heritage Festival on Sunday, July 31 at 6:15 p.m.  (Langley Road, Newton). Bring your family, lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy an evening on the green.  
  • It’s Shakespeare under the stars outdoors at the Parkman Bandstand on Boston Common, in partnership with the City of Boston and Mayor Menino. For its 16th season of Shakespeare on the Common, CSC presents the comedy All’s Well That Ends Well—Shakespeare’s globe-trotting adventure story of how far one woman will go to win the heart of her beloved. Performances are Saturday at 8 p.m.  and Sunday at 7 p.m. Weather hotline: 617-426-0863 (ext. 7)
  • Get your hands dirty in the Powisset Farm fields (Dover), helping plant, weed, and harvest, or with a variety of other farm projects on Saturday, July 30 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m..
