Grab & Go Kids Planner: Hoops and Harps

St. Patrick's Day celebrations continue and the world's most popular basketball team comes to town!

1. It’s time for Needham High’s annual musical featuring more than 100 high school students as actors, singers, dancers and musicians. The Needham High School Fine and Performing Arts Departmentpresents “My Fair Lady” on March 18 and 19 at 7:30 p.m. and March 20 at 2:00 p.m.  Tickets are $15.

2. A one-of-a-kind ballet featuring the Mass Motion Dance Academy will be held in Waltham on Saturday, March 19 at 2:30 p.m. Enjoy music, dancing, and a reading “Gwendolyn the Graceful Pig” by the author himself David Rottenberg. It’s a free event being sponsored by the Friends of the Waltham Public Library (273 Main Street, Waltham). Space is limited. Added bonus: there will be a mini-dance lesson after the performance.

3. Ben Rudnick and Friends – musicians who do it all from light folk to rock and even Irish jigs- will hold two shows to benefit St. John’s Nursery School (340 Clapboardtree Street, Westwood) on March 19, at 9:30 and 11 a.m. to support enrichment and educational opportunities. 4. St. Patrick’s Day extends a few days with the annual free celebration at John F. Kennedy Library & Museum (Columbia Point, Boston) on Saturday, March 19 at 10:30 a.m. Did you know the harp is the official symbol of Ireland? The New England Irish Harp Orchestra and Réagánta bring Ireland to Boston with harps of many shapes and sizes. If you like Irish music, you will think this small orchestra is grand! 5. Spring officially arrives this week and to welcome the season you can bring your family to the Boston Flower Show. Massachusetts Horticultural Society’s Greenway Gardens Blooms flower show is being held at Seaport World Trade Center from March 16 – 20) Admission is $20 for adults and $10 for children. This year's show theme, will explore every facet of one of the most popular and enjoyable gardening trends around – container gardening.

6. The Harlem Globetrotters have played more than 25,000 games, entertaining everyone from Presidents to Popes. Bring out the whole family for an afternoon of fun on Sunday, March 20 at the DCU Center (50 Foster Street, Worcester) at 2:00 p.m. The team is back for their historic 2011 "4 Times the Fun" tour featuring the first-ever 4-point shot! Witness basketball history, and enjoy the show slam-packed with high scores, theatrics, and fun for everyone!
