Grab & Go: It's Time To Celebrate Dad

There are plenty of fun ways to spend time with Dad this weekend. From island exploration in Boston to a ride through history in Concord, Dad will have a fantastic day.

  • Treasure hunting goes high-tech this Saturday, June 18 at Hale Reservation in Westwood. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., dad and the kids can play with GPS devices to locate hidden containers while taking a hike through the woods. Bring along lunch and the GPS will be provided for you. $70.
  • If you love strawberries, this is your lucky weekend. The tasty fruits are in full bloom at Drumlin Farm (208 South Great Road, Lincoln) and ready to be picked on Saturday, June 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Best to call ahead since strawberry picking is dependent upon weather and crop conditions. 781-259-2206. $5 per quart.
  • The Boston Harbor Islands is a great trip to take with dads on Sunday, June 19 beginning at 10 a.m. There is no entrance fee to the islands and ferry ride tickets can be purchased at the Boston Harbor Islands Pavilion on the Rose Kennedy Greenway, across from the Long Wharf Marriott. Also, ferry schedules can be viewed at bostonharborislands.org.
  • Free rides to George’s Island or Spectacle Island for sun and exploration. Tour forts, climb to the highest point in Boston Harbor, or just head to the beach. Bring along a frisbee, your fishing rod, binoculars or a picnic lunch for some outdoor fun with dad.
  • Take a ride back in history with a guided-tour through sites that honor Civil War soldiers on Saturday, June 18. The Concord Museum and Concord Bike Tours have teamed up to offer a guided ride through Concord’s Civil War history.  Begin your Father’s Day weekend tour with a visit to “When Duty Whispers.” Then tour the town by bike with a Concord Bike Tours guide stopping at often-overlooked sites that honor Civil War soldiers, houses that highlight the town’s active Abolitionist movement, and spots unearthed by the Drinking Gourd Project related to Concord’s African American history.  Tour includes Concord Bike Tours comfort bike and helmet, snack & guide.  1:00-3:30; Member/Non-Member $23/$28 adult, $18/$23 child (ages 9-17). Call the Museum to book this special Father’s Day Weekend bike tour.  Tours are also available at other dates and times by reservation.
