Garden Club to Beautify Hospital Road at Route 27

The volunteer Medfield Garden Club will be working with the town to improve the traffic island at the intersection of Route 27 and Hospital Road.

Spring has sprung and so, too, has the Medfield Garden Club with new Spring projects.

Garden Club President Nancy Tella told selectmen last week that her group will continue to maintain the planters at the entrances to Medfield as well as other islands throughout town and they plan to add one more -- the island at the intersection of Route 27 and Hospital Road.

The proposed island would be similar to the intersection of Hartford Street and Route 109 but with a wider edging.

Tella says there is a wide swath on either side of the current Hospital Road island, similar to the one at High Street and South Street, and said the Club considered dressing up the sides of the road but "with the logistics of that site, no matter what we do on the sides, there's still going to be that central eyesore."

The Garden Club is working with the Department of Public Works to install a spigot on the island and plans to use riverstone and mulch along with its flowers and plants.

"I would be delighted if the Garden Club would work with the DPW; it would just make the entrance to the town just that much prettier," said Selectman Osler Peterson.
