Five Things You Need to Know This Weekend, April 16-17

This Weekend's Forecast: There has been a wind advisory issued for Saturday as gusts may reach 40 mph by Saturday night. Forecast calls chance of rain, mainly before 5 p.m. with rain and thunderstorms possible after 1 a.m. Saturday's high temperature will be around 50 degrees with a low of 46. On Sunday, more rain is expected to be in the forecast with some storms "producing heavy rainfall," according to the National Weather Service in Taunton. As Sunday progresses, the storm is expected to pass and it is likely to become mostly sunny with a high near 62 degrees.

  • Family Games and Crafts at the library will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Walpole Farmers Market Day will be held Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at 108 Robbins Rd., Walpole and will feature fresh fruits and vegetables, jams, relishes, pastas, prepared dinners, beef, veal, fish, lobster, cheeses, baked goods, dairy, and arts and crafts. 

Community Singers Begin RehearsalsThe Community Singers, a chorus of about 50 members from Medfield and surrounding towns, under the direction of David Giessow, will begin spring rehearsals for their fall 2011 program on Monday, May 2nd. This non-audition group of singers meets to rehearse on Monday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of The United Church of Christ, 496 Main Street, Medfield through June 13th and then returns early in September to begin preparing for their 22nd Annual Concert on Nov. 20th.

Selections this year feature several pieces by Lowell Mason to honor “the father of music education” and composer of over 1,600 hymn tunes. The group will also be performing some selections from Randall Thompson’s The Testament of Freedom as well as some ever-popular spirituals and Broadway collections.
