Deirdre Walsh Selected as Medfield Foundation's Youth Volunteer of the Year

Medfield High School student Deirdre Walsh has been selected by the Medfield Foundation as its 2011 Youth Volunteer of the Year for her role as President of the Community Teens.

Deirdre Walsh, a student at Medfield High School, is President of the Community Teens, a role in which she plans and oversees the work of a group of about 50-100 high school student volunteers.

Walsh runs the meetings, sets the agendas, works with the Community Teens leadership team and the steering committee, and she also consults with the co-advisors.

Walsh attended Girls State in June of 2010, a five day experience of local and state government held at Stonehill College. She was a member of Warriors for the Homeless, a club that raises awareness for the homeless of Massachusetts. She was also a member of the MHS Guidance Advisory, a group that meets monthly to discuss issues pertaining to the academic and social/emotional needs of all MHS students.

Outside of school, Walsh is an Alter Server, Lector and Peer minister at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Walpole. Walsh trains younger alter servers, and both advises and ministers to the youth of the parish. She is also a member of the Parish Pastoral Council, a confirmation retreat minister and service group leader. Walsh has also been a junior volunteer at Falmouth Hospital, volunteered for a candidate for the legislature, and was a team leader for students fasting and performing community service for World Vision.
