Buyers to Restore Historic Clark Tavern

The tavern was a watering hole for soldiers during the Revolutionary War, and George Washington is rumored to have slept there.

The new owners of the historic Clark Tavern plan to restore the property, according to Town Historian Richard DeSorgher in the June 6 edition of The Hometown Weekly.

DeSorgher says the purchase of the property at 353-355 Main Street (circa 1740) by John and Michelle Linnert is, "clearly a cause of celebration. It is a win-win situation for Medfield" as many were concerned with preserving the property.

Says DeSorgher:

John and Michelle Linnert plan to restore the Tavern and bring it back to its multi-function usage. They hope to open an antique shop in one part and an inn and tavern in the other part. Pending town approval, they hope to move as quickly as possible. They want to work with the community and are looking for suggestions and ideas and hope people in the community will come forward to help them develop a vision for the historic structure.

The tavern was a watering hole for soldiers during the Revolutionary War (where the State of Connecticut ran up quite a tab, according to Medfield lore), and George Washington is rumored to have slept there.
