Mark your calendars for a Mardi Gras miracle in Medfield – on Saturday, March 5, the will kick off the Easter season with its annual charity auction.

The public is invited to this community event that will help raise money to preserve and maintain the 1789 Meeting House building located at 30 North St. and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  It is also the town’s oldest continuously-used public building.

“There will be live jazz with a combo from the award-winning Medfield High School jazz band, wine and abundant hors d’oeuvres, silent and live auctions of sports tickets, vacation stays, fine dining, etc, donated by members of First Parish and by local merchants,” said FPUUC member David Temple in the event’s press release.

There will also be six sets of four Red Sox tickets, a time share in Puerto Rico, homemade dinner for six, a Boston weekend getaway, cases of wine, and a football signed by Patriots player Vince Wilfolk.

Auction donations will be accepted until Friday, Feb. 25 when the event program will be sent to the printer.

“It’s a nice way for businesses to get some advertising,” said Bunger, adding that merchants are offered free tickets in exchange for their donation.

Last year’s auction raised approximately $9,000 which sent about $350 to each one of the five food pantries (in towns where many of its members reside) and left about $7,250 to go toward the $10,000 cost of preserving and maintaining the 222-year old building.

This year’s Mardi Gras revelers will enjoy the auctioneer services of Bob Luttman and Peter Gaines, a trivia game with Bill Wians, and a jazz record collection that is sure to set the mood.

Child care will be available at no cost in the U Building.

Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased in advance or at the door.
