5 Things You Need to Know Today in Medfield, Jan.19

Here's a look at the day ahead.

Tday's Forecast: Thursday's weather, according to the National Weather Service based in Taunton, calls for mostly sunny, with a high near 31. Calm wind becoming south between 4 and 7 mph. Thursday Night: Snow likely, mainly between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 25. South wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

Notable Events:  

  • The Board of Assessors will hold a meeting at the at 7:30 a.m.
  • Seniors are invited to visit the Center at Medfield and enjoy a Zumba dance exercise session every Thursday at 10 a.m. This workout will use every muscle you have and you'll have fun doing it. Drop-In cost is $4 per class.
  • Kindergarten Registration forms are now available online and available here: Memorial School's Kindergarten Registration page. A Kindergarten Parent Info Night will be held at on Jan. 26 at 7 p.m.

  • Pattycake Place Story Time will be held at 10:45 a.m. Children, ages 0-23 months old are invited to particpate in the interactive storytime with their caregivers. Also at the library Wednesday, will be the Book Bunch Storytime, beginning at 11:30 a.m. for preschoolers, ages 2 and 
  • Laura and Rick Brown, the founders of Handshouse studio, will show and tell the story of the historic reconstruction of the Gwozdziec Synagogue, a Polish Synagogue built in the Polish Lithuanian Empire in 1731, and destroyed in 1939.  In 2012 there are plans to rebuild its polychrome ceiling and timber-framed roof to 85 percent scale, using traditional tools, techniques, and materials. As part of the Medfield Reads exploration of cultural roots, Laura and Rick Brown invite you to marvel at the magnificent hand work of then and now.­­
  • The library will be open until 10 p.m. tonight for high school midterm exams. Free pizza, snacks and drinks will be available for students after 6:30 p.m. Areas for quiet study and groups are also available.

Former Professional Basketball Player Chris Herren to Speak at Medfield High School: Chris Herren, former Boston College basketball and NBA player (Denver Nuggets and Boston Celtics) will speak in the Lowell Mason Auditorium of the high school Thursday at 1 p.m. for MHS juniors and seniors only. Herren will tell his story, which was featured on ESPN, "Unguarded."
