5 Things You Need to Know Today in Medfield, Feb. 1

Here's a look at the day ahead.

Today's Forecast: Wednesday's weather, according to the National Weather Service based in Taunton, calls for a chance of showers, mainly between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 55. West wind between 8 and 14 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 31. West wind between 3 and 10 mph.

Notable Events:

  • Medfield's State Representative, Denise Garlick, 13th Norfolk District, will host a “Representative’s Community Report to Medfield” tonight at 7 p.m. at the . The report, a first of its kind, welcomes constituents to voice their questions and concerns. The discussion will include goals for 2012 and beyond. All community members are invited. The evening’s agenda will include a reception from 7 to 7:30 p.m. A report to the community from 7:30 to 8 p.m. to be followed by Questions and Discussion from 8 to 8:30 p.m. 
  • The swim team will be swimming for a cause today at Franklin's Adirondack Club to raise money for cancer research and treatment. The Warriors will be dedicating Wednesday’s practice to raising these funds by running a relay format with athletes swimming continuously to represent solidarity in this team-wide effort to raise awareness of cancer, according to Medfield head coach Sara Callahan. To contribute to this cause, the Medfield High School swim and dive team has set up a website, which can be used to make tax-deductable donations. To view the website, click here.
  • Medfield High School Boosters will hold a meeting at the Library Media Center at 7 p.m. All are welcome.

  • The girls' and boys' varsity winter track teams travel to Holliston for a 3:30 p.m. meet.
  • The boys' varsity ice hockey team faces off against Bellingham at the Veterans Arena in Franklin at 8 p.m.
  • The girls' varsity ice hockey team faces off against Franklin at the Iorio Arena in Walpole at 8 p.m.
