Today's Forecast: Friday's weather, according to the National Weather Service based in Taunton, calls for sunny, with a high near 50. Calm wind becoming south between 6 and 9 mph.  Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 31.

The Friends of the will hold a Children's Used Book Sale Saturday, Dec. 3rd from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Most books are 25 cents, nicer books (Christmas gifts?) priced a little higher. Wide range of books, including young adult, early reader, board books, picture books and chapter books. Also a good number of withdrawn books from the library children's room. All funds raised support library materials and programs.

Notable Events: 

  • The holiday season officially begins with MEMO's annual holiday tonight at 7 p.m. at Baxter Park. The annual winter outing for families and friends begins with the tree lighting and carol singing at 7 p.m., when the switch is thrown for the large Christmas tree that transforms the park into a wonderland of lights and music. A new feature this year will be the performances by four winners of the "Joy to the World Singing" contest, judged earlier in the week following auditions. This is also the event when children ages 4 and up may sign up for the lottery that selects six elves to ride on Santa’s sleigh in Saturday’s parade on Dec. 3rd.
  • The invite you to their Annual Carol Sing at 7:30 p.m.  Enjoy the UCC Sanctuary Choir singing music like “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” as well as the “Ukrainian Bell Carol” being expertly rung by the church handbell ensemble. Then over two dozen children’s voices will join together as the UCC Treble Choir and special guests from the Blackstone Valley Catholic Youth Choir present some of the pieces they are preparing for the 2012 Choristers Guild Festival, including “O Little Town of Bethlehem” and George Dyson’s “Magnificat.” Another special guest, Michael Mukisa, will be accenting some of the musical selections with African percussion instruments and leading the singing of his rollicking choral arrangement of the Ugandan Advent hymn, “Bin Emmanuel.”
  • will hold its 41st Annual Midnight Madness Sale at 6:30 p.m. Friday. As well as enjoying 20 percent off everything in the store (except food and tobacco), welcome Santa as he arrives in his Christmas Float (arriving at 6:30 p.m.). This annual event includes a free Photo with Santa to the first 200 people - taken by Colleen Sullivan, free soda, coffee, doughnuts and Live Entertainment by "Random Play." Enter to win a $300 Holiday Basket, a 2011 Holiday ornament basket or a toy basket. There will also be Turkey Giveaways every hour.
