5 Things You Need to Know in the Week Ahead: Sept. 5-11

Here's a quick look at the week ahead in Medfield.

Five-Day Forecast: Medfield is expected to see a lot of rain due to Tropical Storm Lee, according to weather.com. Labor Day expects to be partly sunny with a high of 81 before showers on Monday night, mainly after 1 a.m. Showers are likely before 11 a.m. on Tuesday with a high near 74. A chance of showers are likely before 10 a.m. on Wednesday with a high near 69. There's a chance of showers expected for Thursday with a low around 57. Showers are expected Friday before stopping Friday night. Cloudy conditions are expected for Medfield High School football's season opener at home against Oliver Ames. High is expected to be 74 with a low of 57. Weekend expects to be sunny - Saturday is expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 75 and Sunday is expected to be partly sunny with a high near 74. 

Town Meetings: Medfield Board of Selectmen will meet Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. on the second floor of Town Hall. They are expected to discuss the Medfield State Hospital site and hear an update on its status, review and vote on pending licenses and permits and vote to approve minutes of Aug. 16 and Aug. 29. Parks and Recreation Department will hold a meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at the Pfaff Community Center on North Street at 7 p.m. The Permanent Building Committee will meet on Sept. 8 on the second floor of Town Hall at 6:30 p.m.

Medfield High School Sports Begin: The 2011 Medfield High School sports fall seasons begin Tuesday with boys' and girls' soccer teams in action against Norton. The boys' host Norton at 5 p.m. and the girls' travel to Norton for a 3:30 p.m. game. The MHS golf team, girls' volleyball team and boys' and girls' cross country teams all debut on Wednesday. Golf plays Norton at 3 p.m., girls' volleyball hosts Norton at 6:30 p.m. and the cross country teams host Ashland at 3:30 p.m. The field hockey and football teams open their seasons on Friday. Field hockey hosts Westwood at 3:30 p.m. and Medfield football debuts at home against Oliver Ames at 7 p.m.

Medfield Events: 

  • MHS Booster Club will host an Italian Groceria Night Tuesday to benefit the defending state champion MHS girls' soccer team from 5 to 8 p.m. Stop by the popular deli and pizzeria at 258 Main St. and grab some food. 30 percent of all sales will benefit the team.
  • Medfield Fire Department will hold a Blood Drive at the senior center on One Ice House Rd. at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
  • Medfield Lions September meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday with feature Medfield High School football coach Erik Ormberg. 
  • Medfield Farmers' Market will be held on the ground of the Unitarian Church on North Street from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday.

9/11 Tribute at Peak House: Stop by the Peak House from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11 for its last open house tour of the season and see a flag display to pay tribute to the 10th anniversary of 9/11. Flags from different time periods of Medfield's history will be on display, weather permitting.
