Spirit Week Rocks MHS

Article by Craig Weisenfeld, a Medfield High School student and member of the student newspaper, "The Kingsbury Chronicle." This piece is part of Medfield Patch's series, "Warrior Weekly."

School spirit took over Medfield High School this past week during the annual Spirit Week, as Student Council prepared a full week of themed days culminating with the yearly Pep Rally to give students an opportunity to show their Warrior pride.

Monday continued the tradition of Color Day. Freshmen wore yellow, sophomores green, juniors red, and seniors black. Participation was very good among students, with almost everyone dressing in their respective color. Some students even rocked full bodysuits, face and all. Student Council covered the halls with streamers and met students at the parking lot entrance, pumping them up for the week to come with energy, signs, and honks for MHS pride.

Tuesday brought red, white, and blue to the high school for American Pride Day. Students showed off flags, bandanas, and face paint in support of the U.S. of A. Each year, there are three days in between Color Day and Medfield Pride Day for Student Council to decide themes. American Pride Day was one of the most successful in recent years, again with the vast majority of students participating.

Wednesday saw students representing a plethora of different occupations enter the halls for Career Day. Construction workers, businessmen and women, nurses, athletes, and even Ghostbusters were represented by students who just may have those jobs someday. No word yet on the college with the best program to become a Ghostbuster.

Thursday revived the Cheetah Girls’ spandex attire for Safari Day, ushering many different types of animal print back into fashion. This was yet another successful day, with students showing off safari hats, binoculars, and even leopard-print Snuggies.

Friday finally arrived, and so too did a sea of white and blue. After a week full of spirit, the annual Warrior Pride Day brought out the best in students’ enthusiasm. They came with hair dye and even more face paint, covered head to toe in Warrior gear. There was a certain buzz around the school that senior Bethany Komine described as “anxious and excited.”

After a half day of anticipation, all the hours put in by Student Council paid off with the Pep Rally. Seniors John Powers and Jack Papadinoff hosted the affair, cracking many inside jokes for the senior class, as is tradition, but also incorporating many different acts and games. Popular events included Spanish teacher Ms. Seri kissing a fish to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, ex-boyfriends and girlfriends rejoining forces for an obstacle course, and blindfolded freshmen boys dancing with their mothers, not senior girls as they thought.

In all, the total amount of spirit and pride shown throughout the five days, as well as a strong Pep Rally to top it off, made the week a success. Said senior Jack Lyons, whose class of 2013 is graduating next spring and will not experience the events again, “It was a great Spirit Week, and an especially good one to end high school on.”
