Lots to do in Medfield on Saturday....

May is often a month where our lives gear up and we are busy, but before you head out of town on Saturday (May 10th), please take note of what is happening here and what you can do to help out!

In order to not miss out, here is a plan for your Saturday…

~ STAMP OUT  HUNGER Postal Food Drive

When you first step out your door, please place a bag of non-perishable food items next to your mailbox.  Please make sure they are in a sturdy bag and easily seen by the mailman.  This food drive is a National event and the largest one-day food drive in the U.S.

What you might not know is how important this food drive is to our local Medfield Food Cupboard and how much they depend on it being successful.  Beth Eby, President of the Medfield Food Cupboard told me “This postal food drive is so important to us as it provides food for the summer months when donations are down.  We really need JUICE and CEREAL.  Those are the two biggest items.  We can also use COOKIES, CRACKERS, PASTA SAUCE, CANNED CHICKEN, APPLESAUCE CUPS and RAISENS.  Please no expired or opened items.”

Beth also mentioned that VOLUNTEERS are welcome to help with sorting and organization…if so, please go to the Medfield Food Cupboard location at the United Church of Christ on Saturday between 1pm – 4:30pm.  Many hands make light work!

~RECYCLE your Furniture and Household items/Sports Equipment Swap at Transfer Station (Medfield Green Month)

After leaving your food drive items at your mailbox, take a trip to the Transfer Station with any FURNITURE/HOUSEHOLD items you might have (9am – 1pm).  And, if you have SPORTS EQUIPMENT you would like to swap, head over to Wheelock School between 9am – 1pm.

Take note that May is “Medfield Green Month” and each weekend in May something is happening at the Transfer Station and around town.

~MOTHER’S DAY Plant Sale – Church of the Advent

Now it’s time to shop!  If you are looking for a gorgeous hanging plant, check out the plant sale at the Church of the Advent.  The sale is from 9am – 2pm, on the front lawn of the church and the proceeds benefit The Red Thread Promise which helps handicapped children and orphans in Haiti.

~MOTHER’S DAY Dwight-Derby House Shoppe – 7 Frairy Street

And, if you are looking for other hand-crafted or Medfield related Mother’s Day items, stop by the Dwight-Derby House Shoppe between 10am – 2pm.  Artisans include Susan McCarthy and her hand-crafted ribbon scarves, Cheryl O’Malley’s, handmade jewelry items and note cards, and I am offering Medfield note cards and small potted flowers and succulents….all items would make lovely Mother’s Day gifts!

If weather permits (and hopefully it will be a great day), there will be an upscale YARD SALE on the Dwight-Derby House lawn and driveway.

Shop this treasure trove of delightful and creative gift items produced in Medfield and surrounding towns.  And bring a friend!

Enjoy your Medfield Saturday and thanks for supporting these events!
