Nathan Parry to Compete in 2013 Massachusetts National Geographic Bee
Blake Middle School Student, Nathan Parry, to compete in the Mass. National Geographic Bee!
Standing in front of the Blake Middle School front entrance, and next to the Walt Disney quote stating “Our Greatest National Resource is in the minds of our children”, Nathan Parry, a sixth grade student at Blake, beamed a confident smile as he posed so I could take his photograph.
Parry moved to Medfield from England when he was in second grade, and he has proven to be quite a student in his few short years in Medfield!

Parry is a semifinalist for the 2013 Massachusetts National Geographic Bee sponsored by the National Geography Society and will compete against the other Massachusetts winners on April 5th at the Worcester Academy in Worcester.
This school year, as a sixth grader, Nathan was the Blake Middle School winner of the Geography Bee and then passed a geography test given by the National Geography Society. His score was amongst the top 100 students in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts qualifying him to participate in the State competition.

Parry has taken part in this event since he was in fourth grade at the Dale Street School. That year he was the winner at the school, but after taking the National Geography test, he did not place in the top 100. In fifth grade, he was the winner in his class at Dale Street School, but was not the school winner. This year, he was not only the top winner in his grade, he competed against all seventh and eighth grade students at Blake and won to become the sole representative from Blake to attend this competition in Worcester.
When asked how he feels about this upcoming competition he said, “I’m excited and a bit nervous but I feel well prepared. I’m not sure what to expect.”
The winner of this competition wins $100, a DVD collection of the "Complete National Geographic on DVD" and a trip to compete in the National Geographic Bee in Washington, D.C. on May 23.
