Medfield celebrates ARBOR DAY~

Celebrating Arbor Day in Medfield

A small group of residents gathered on North Street at 3p.m. on Friday to celebrate Arbor Day!

Selectman, Richard DeSorgher, read an Arbor Day Proclamation and members of the Downtown Study Committee as well as Bobby Kennedy from the Department of Public Works (DPW) posed in front of the newly planted Bradford Pear tree.

The tree, which is located in front of Honey’s on North Street, was donated by MEMO (Medfield Employers and Merchants Organization) and purple pansies were planted around the tree by Mrs. Larkin.

“We are celebrating trees!” exclaimed Brandie Morris Erb, chairman of the Downtown Study Committee, after the ceremony.  Arbor Day is celebrated on April 26 each year in Massachusetts and this year, Medfield celebrated it with the planting of this new tree and the creation of 6 large murals on the front windows of the Lord’s building.

Morris Erb further explained that a tree had previously been in this spot on North Street, but over time, its roots were causing problems with cracks and bumps in the sidewalk and that space was in need of a new tree.  Planting this tree was also the fulfillment of the final requirement in the process of becoming a “Tree City USA”.

These murals were created by students in the Medfield After School Program (MAP).  Four of the murals display the four seasons of this newly planted tree. They creatively show this tree in summer, spring, winter and fall.  To the right of the trees is the Medfield Gazebo and to the left is the Peak House.  These murals are a welcome addition to the empty downtown windows.

Medfield residents should take a look at our newest tree on North Street, and also stop by and take a close look at the murals on Main Street.  They are all wonderful additions to our town of Medfield!
