Between 2010-2012, homelessness among Veteran’s declined, according to the Department of Veteran’s Affairs and Housing and Urban Development. This means Veterans are finding larger numbers of transitional or permanent housing available to them.

What’s better than assisting their new move than helping to provide a much needed house-warming gift to thank them for their services they have provided us?

A Buddy Basket is a nice and easy way to welcome a Veteran into their new home!  The Auxillary Legion has partnered with HomeStart, Inc. (http://www.homestart.org/) to provide baskets to their Welcome Home Baskets program.

Welcome Home Baskets have helped numerous clients over the years get a head start making their new housing a home Here is a list of NEW item ideas that will help fill a basket:

Small appliances (microwave, CD player, toaster, coffeemaker, alarm clock, small TV).

Linens (sheets – twin and full, towels, face cloths, pillows, bath mat, shower curtain).

Toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, razors, lotion, soap, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes etc.).

*Household supplies* (toilet paper, paper towels, dish towels, dish soap, Windex, comet, kitchen cleaner, sponges, rubber gloves, dust pan/broom, mops, can openers, set of dishes, set of silverware, set of cups, oven mitts etc.).

They are also collecting gift cards to various places like CVS, Target, Wal-Mart and Bed Bath& Beyond, grocery stores and Charlie Cards to help get them to their new jobs!·

Monetary donations will be used to purchase additional items for the baskets.  Checks can be made out to ALA 110.

ANY NEW ITEMS to help fill these baskets is appreciated! The Auxillary is hoping to fill at least 12 baskets and hand deliver them!  If you are interested in helping, you can either contact Michelle Doucette at 508-359-2290 or Lorrie Guindon at 508-294-4962.
