MEMO Discover Medfield History Day Trolley Tour

Tickets now available at Medfield Properties for MEMO's Discover Medfield History Day Trolley Tour June 8

Tickets are now available at Medfield Properties on North St. for the Discover Medfield History Day trolley tour "Remember us for we too have loved, lived and laughed"...A History of Medfield State Hospital Cemeteries, on June 8, sponsored by the Medfield Employers and Merchants Organization, MEMO.  Tickets for the tours are $9.00 for adults and $6 for seniors and children under 12. Five identical tours are available on an accessible, Old Town Trolley departing from Frairy St. (in front of the Dwight Derby House) beginning at 9 A.M. The tickets must be purchased for a distinct time.  The final tour will depart around 2 P.M. Each tour will be an hour and a half in length to visit the two cemeteries where patients from Medfield State Hospital were buried over the many years of its operation.

During the ride to the points of interest, history will focus on the year 1896 when the hospital first opened.  The two state hospital cemeteries; one at Vine Lake Cemetery and the other off Route 27 by the Charles River, where there is a long and often sad history, were restored recently.  Passengers will leave the vehicle and walk while Tour Guide Richard DeSorgher talks about the hospital and gives personalities to the patients. DeSorgher feels the tour is timely, since the future of the former hospital is a current issue in the town.

This is the first Medfield History Day tour with a walking component. Due to the time required for visits, the schedule has been set a little longer than the traditional hour-long tour and an accessible trolley has been ordered for those with mobility issues.

MEMO members from The Math Connection, Prospect Mortgage and Beginning Years make up the Discover Medfield Day Committee.

The local business organization is similar to a Chamber of Commerce.  Discover Medfield History Day is one of the seasonal events sponsored by MEMO, organized in 1979.  The purpose of the organization is to promote local businesses, services and professionals in Medfield and to provide a network where they can share ideas and business practices.  Membership is open to all whose business is located in Medfield or that serves its residents.
