Medfield Farmers' Market Every Thursday

Medfield Farmers' Market will still be on site at 26 North St. on 4th of July with fresh produce, jams and relishes, fresh fish, homemade soap and gluten free doggie treats.

Both Langwater and Wards Berry Farms report an abundant crop of sweet strawberries are ripening this month, and they and other vendors will be at the Medfield Farmers Market on the Fourth of July.  You can pick your own berries at Wards Farm in Sharon but why bother when you can buy them easily at the weekly Farmers Market, held Thursdays from 2-6:30 on the grounds of the First Parish UU Church, 26 North St.  Langwater is the certified organic farm in Easton, however, many of the acres at Wards in Sharon are also farmed organically.  Their fruits and vegetables are always picked fresh for market days.

In addition to berries, this is now the season for healthy, leafy, green vegetables: spinach, lettuce, kale, broccoli crowns, and chard. The farm stands have a colorful display of zucchini and summer squash, beets in several colors, white radishes and sweet turnip,  Be sure to keep your eyes open for fresh sweet corn as it becomes available.  Support local agriculture and eat healthier.

Jordan Brothers Seafood from Brockton is also a popular vender weekly with fresh shellfish and the catch of the day.  The canine part of the family will be happy with some gluten free snacks from Bark Back Bakery and there are lovely scented handmade soaps and lotions found at the Wild Daisy Soap booth.  Although Garden Farms sounds like a produce vendor, their booth has a wonderful array of homemade jellies, jams, relishes and grilling sauces made from the finest, fresh fruits and vegetables without preservatives.  You can sample something before purchasing to determine if it is too sweet or too spicy.  The staff is happy to make recommendations to go with most entrees.

Heifer International was the local organization exhibiting last week.  All local civic and service groups are encouraged to participate in the weekly market to promote their causes and acquaint the public with their missions.  Heifer is a U.S. based organization providing livestock and training in sustainable agriculture to those living in poverty here in the U.S. and around the world. The local group explained how they work with communities to end hunger and poverty while they care for the earth.  Part of the exhibit included hands on demonstrations of carding wool, how small farmers benefit from the gift of sheep, llama or alpaca and how simple equipment can be used to make cumbersome tasks like grinding grain and coffee easier.  Medfield congregations and residents have a long tradition of supporting Heifer’s work and the group was happy to share how their generosity makes a world of difference.

More vendors and other Medfield organizations will be exhibiting periodically throughout the summer so continue to check out what is new each week.  Civic and service groups interested in participating free of charge should contact Eve Potts at 508-359-6581.
