Ruthie's Diner Offering Ice Cream and Boxed Meals this Summer in Medfield

Ruthie's Diner offers Ice Cream, extended hours, and Boxed Meals during the Summer Concerts at the Gazebo.

Michelle James, owner of Ruthie's Diner in , wants the people of Medfield to know they have ice cream, lots of ice cream.

Hot fudge sundaes, banana splits, ice cream whips, brownie sundaes, frappes, milkshakes, root beer floats, Lime Rickys, Cherry Cokes and egg cremes are only a sampling of what can be found at Ruthie's Soda Fountain and the hours will be extended during the summer.

The Diner is relatively new to Medfield, just two months in business, and James is making two big changes. She is extending the Soda Fountain hours into the evening on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays for the summer months and she will be selling boxed meals during MEMO's Summer Concert Series at the Gazebo on Thursdays. She says both changes are customer-friendly.

Ruthie's Diner opened in April and the "Retro" Diner has been a big hit in town.

"I want my customers to experience the way ice cream used to be ... when they see the size of the banana split they are in awe," said James. "I never expected the diner to take off like this, it has been great ... the first week was insane. We take a little longer to prepare the food, but everything is fresh. We use 100 percent Angus beef for our burgers, Hebrew National hot dogs and only the freshest fish. Everything is fresh and made to order."

Ruthie's Diner will also sell packaged ice cream items, popsicles, Italian ice, water, popcorn, canned soda and 99-cent coffee outdoors on the Thursday concert evenings in addition to the boxed meals.

James' passion for food and customer-friendly service have been evident since opening Ruthie's Diner to the Medfield community two months ago.

"I love what I'm doing...Food has to be fun," she said.
