Treasure is the Theme at this Year's Medfield Day

The 32nd Annual Medfield Day will be held on Sept. 17.

How do you discover treasure?

Some people use maps, others use the lore of past treasure hunters, some Geiger counters. Wonder how many ever tried a bingo card? Discover Medfield Treasures is the theme of this year’s Discover Medfield Day, which will be held on Sept. 17. Organized by the Medfield Employers and Merchants Organization Inc., MEMO, in 1980 it has become an annual event.

In order to find the treasures, scattered around the fair grounds, visitors must pick up a bingo type card that has rows of names of treasures to find and have verified. There will be two age divisions, for 12-17 year-old winners, the prize is a $25 gift card to the Blue Moon.  For adults 18 years and older the prize will be a Noon Hill Grill gift card valued at $50.

For all players, the prize is the fun of finding the treasures on your card. Not every card will be the same and cards will be available at the MEMO booth when the fair begins at 9 a.m.

The fall fair, located around Meeting House Pond, is a treasure in itself by virtue of the fact that it brings out residents, after a hiatus of summer inactivity, to enjoy the colorful atmosphere, wonderful fall weather, seeing neighbors, including those who moved away but return for the fair and to visit each exhibit booth to learn about who has a local business.

After all, that was the purpose of the fair when the fledgling business organization started up in 1979 … how can we promote our new organization and how can we help each member introduce and promote itself in Medfield. From a new business organization of 30 members it has grown to more than 70, many early members still are active today. The day has grown in scope of the number and variety of its exhibitors now including small local craftsmen, civic and service organizations, schools and churches.

It now includes a very large kids alley with inflatable activities for all ages. Its volunteer staff includes not only MEMO members but also high school students thanks to the MHS Student Council direction. It also has grown in the number of visitors annually and the number of similar fairs held in many neighboring towns. Emphasis is still given to promoting local groups who actively serve Medfield. Of the 113 sites registered to date, only 10 percent are non-Medfield participants.

Medfield Day is a rain or shine event, open to the public free of any admission fee (although there will be items for sale and charges for Kids Alley activities) thanks to our many corporate sponsors. Clay Family Dealership is the Gold Sponsor again this year; Doctors Geoffrey Glick and Stanley Starr are the Silver Sponsor; Roche Bros Supermarkets, Personal Best Martial Arts Studio and Doctors Glick and Starr are Bronze Sponsors. Middlesex Savings Bank is a Patron.

Be sure to thank these generous supporters and all those exhibitors participating in Medfield Day 2011, they are the community's treasures.
