NSTAR Estimate For Restoring Medfield's Electricity: Saturday Night

274 of 4,774 Medfield NSTAR customers are without power as of 9 a.m. Tuesday.

NSTAR estimates fully restoring Medfield to power by 10 p.m. Saturday, according to the utility.

As of 9 a.m., 274 of NSTAR's 4,774  Medfield customers, or 5.74 percent, remained without electricity, according to a chart on NSTAR's website.

Overall, NSTAR had 84,366 customers still out from Irene-related damage Sunday. All outages are expected to end between 10 p.m. Thursday and 10 p.m. this Sunday.

Of these, there are 9,000 in "the communities around Walpole," the utility said.

  • Millis had 184 customers out
  • Dover had 688 customers out
  • Sherborn had 527 customers out
  • Norfolk had 1,610 customers out
  • Westwood had 146 customers out
  • Dedham had 1,360 customers out
  • Holliston had 1,124 customers out
  • Medway had 547 customers out

Marshfield took the biggest hit from Irene out of all of NSTAR's customers as 6,708 of 11,980, or 55.99 percent, are without power. 

"Crews will continue working around the clock until all customers are restored; concentrating first on making the repairs that will benefit the largest number of customers. Due to the extent of the damage and the large number of customers affected, many NSTAR customers currently without power could be out for several days," the utility said.

NSTAR encourages customers whose electric service is affected to report it by calling 1-800-592-2000.

"We also urge people to stay away from all down wires and to report them to NSTAR and local emergency officials," the utility said.

Medfield Patch readers today have reported outages on these streets: Granite Street, Plain Street, Philip Street and Bridge Street. Medfield Superintendent of Schools, Bob Maguire, said at Monday night's school committee meeting that all schools with the exception of the are running on full power. 

"All of the buildings had full power with the exception of Wheelock, which was running basically on half power," Maguire said. "All the light safety systems were in place so we felt it was perfectly safe to have the building occupied and have the staff in."

Medfield public safety departments have been busy since Monday clearing streets and removing downed trees around town. Medfield Police Chief Robert Meaney Jr. said Tuesday Dale Street at Bridge Street end, Snyder Road and Plain Street are closed and that NSTAR has informed the town of the remaining areas without power.

"According to NSTAR as of [Tuesday] morning, 95 percent of Medfield has power," Meaney said. "Remaining area without power are, but not limited to, Bridge Street, Indian Hill Road and Granite Street. This does not include individual service lines to houses that are out all around the town. More power is expected to be restored [Tuesday] and perhaps the three roads [closed] will also open."

The Medfield Transfer Station will be open all week, Monday through Saturday, as residents clean up in the .
