MEMO's Medfield Day Set for 32nd Year of Fall Fun

MEMO's Discover Medfield Day will be held Saturday, Sept. 17 throughout the center of town, with the booth exhibits of local businesses set up around Meeting House Pond on North Street.

Discover Medfield Day began in 1980 to promote Medfield merchants, many of whom had joined together the previous year to form the Medfield Employers and Merchants Organization, MEMO

Sept. 17 will mark the 32nd fall fair that promotes Medfield businesses, organizations, professionals, civic and service organizations, home industries and many more from the surrounding area. It is free admission and open to the public and will be held in the center of town with exhibit sites surrounding the Meeting House Pond on North Street.

The day includes a Kids Alley, staffed by volunteers organized by the student council and adult volunteers from MEMO coordinated by the representative from .

Kids Alley is more popular than the main concourse primarily because it includes inflatable rides, a trackless train and activities sponsored by Doherty, Ciechanowski, Dugan & Cannon; , , Medfield Veterinary Clinic, Paulette's Dance Studio, , and O’Brien and Sons.

Live entertainment continues throughout the day, concluding with the music from 1 to 3 p.m., which will be performed by "Groove Merchants," a four-member ensemble of talented musicians who are a spin off of the .

The morning program begins at 9 a.m. with a color guard from Beckwith Post 110, American Legion, followed by the national anthem. 

Paulette’s Dance studio students will perform and then the Close Shaves return to the Medfield Day stage, bringing their popular harmony. New performers at Medfield Day this year will be the students of the Greene-O’Leary School of Irish Dancing, performing at 12:30 p.m.

Of the 150 booths, only a few remain unsold. Exhibitors this year are urged to decorate with the theme “Medfield Treasures.” Booths will be judged in four categories: best booth, most informative, best describing the business or organization, best representation of the annual theme. A free booth next year – and an engraved plaque is awarded to the exhibitor judged to be the best decorated overall. 

won this award last year. The other three category winners receive a plaque recognizing their efforts. Gold tee shirts displaying a treasure chest will identify Medfield Day Staff and acknowledge the corporate gold sponsor, Clay family dealerships.

Part of the fun for the day will be finding the Medfield treasures in a Bingo like Treasure Hunt. Cards may be obtained at the MEMO booth, in front of the stage. 

They must be stamped at the booth where the treasure is found and returned to the MEMO booth and deposited when filled in. Drawing will be at the end of the day. Prizes include a Blue Moon $25 gift certificate for the winner of age 12 to 17 and a $50 gift card.

In, addition the players find plenty of treasures at Medfield Day as they search.

MEMO member businesses represented on the planning committee include: Beginning Years and Elm Summer Camp, , Mary Roque/Attorney, , , Prospect Mortgage, Rehab Marketing Associates, , , Graphic Artist Seymour Levy, Medfield Software and Hank Marcel.

Medfield Day is supported in part by many generous sponsors including The Gold sponsor: Clay family Auto Dealership, The Silver Sponsor: Orthodontists Dr. Geoffrey Glick and Dr. Stanley Starr, who are also one of the Bronze sponsors with , Dover Trucking and Baseball Consultants.

A Silent Auction and Raffle at the MEMO booth supports the scholarships given annually to Medfield High and Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical School students.

MEMO members and other Medfield individuals donated all the items. Special thanks this year goes to former Red Sox star Curt Schilling and Boston Celtics team president, Rich Gotham.

Medfield Day is a rain or shine event, postponed only for catastrophic wind and rain. If postponed, the event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 24. Admission is free to the fair and its daylong live entertainment. 

Profits from Medfield Day help support MEMO activities provided for Medfield throughout the year, including the ; ; in the spring via an historic trolley tour planned and narrated by Richard DeSorgher, the Town Historian. The flags flown throughout the central business district on major holidays to honor local service men and women are also contributions to the town from MEMO in addition to scholarships that benefit from the Silent Auction/raffle.
