Medfield’s Planning Board spent just over a month reviewing CVS’ expansion/renovation site plan of the 555 Main St. building this past fall before unanimously approving the plan under a few conditions on Nov. 21, 2011. Five months later, the project is underway.

In addition to adding a two-lane drive-thru, expanding throughout the entire 555 Main St. building and reconfiguring the parking lot, the project calls for the installation of historic pole lighting to match the lights of neighbor and complement Baxter Park, tractor trailer deliveries restricted to midnight to 6 a.m. and snow storage in the front of the building not to exceed four feet in height.

While the store improvements will undoubtedly benefit the pharmacy’s customers, town historian Richard DeSorgher pointed out during the hearing process that renovations to the building will also improve the look of the downtown.

“This really is one of the most visible sections of town and they really have the opportunity to be a good neighbor … I just wanted to commend CVS for working with the town to try to improve the look of that area,” said DeSorgher.
