Residents in Medfield and former customers of the long-time local business Lord's will no longer see the store's iconic red sign glowing atop the building on Main Street.

The landmark sign was removed Saturday morning and will be held in storage, according to the Medfield Remembers Lord's Facebook page. Crews can be seen removing the sign in photos posted to the Medfield Patch Facebook page over the weekend.

Representatives for Roche Bros. plan to use the building for what has been dubbed as "Brother's Market" with project plans that were approved by the Medfield Planning Board in December, and were previously approved by the Zoning Board of Appeals and the Board of Health.

It's a sad day to see that Medfield Landmark taken down. I thought it would be nice to leave it on roof and have a skylight put in roof of store so that at the right angle you could see the old sign. Doubt if Roches would buy that. Another idea is to put it in the high school cafeteria.

Drove by the other day to see that Roche removed the exterior paneling that covered up beautiful brickwork. Have lived here for 34 yrs and can only remember the ugly paneling. Sure hope Roche restores the brickwork.
