Blue Moon Hopes to Serve Yogurt on its Patio

Blue Moon Bagel Cafe has applied for a permit to serve soft-serve frozen yogurt at its restaurant.

Blue Moon Bagel Cafe has asked the town for permission to sell soft-serve frozen yogurt from its patio from Memorial Day through Medfield Day.

On Thursday night, Blue Moon's general manager Jim Hatch, asked the Medfield Zoning Board of Appeals for special permission to set up a yogurt cart on the patio of its restaurant at 236 Main Street.

"What we're asking is for permission to have the soft-serve [yogurt] machine outside, and a cooler unit with all the toppings, to sell it outside the building within five feet of the building," Hatch said, explaining it would be set up to the left of the main entrance.

Hatch said the table arrangement would stay as it is now but he would lose one outdoor table to accommodate the machine. He would staff the machine with current employees.

The plan would require electricity and a water spigot (for the water-cooled soft-serve machine) be installed on the patio.

ZBA Chairman Steve Nolan said the board had received a letter of support from The Wilder Company which is the owner of the strip mall.

Hatch said he expects to have the Board of Health permit within the next week or two.

After no questions from the audience, the ZBA closed the hearing at 8:30 p.m. and said it would issue its decision as soon as possible.
