We Care: Ben Speaks Hosts Grief Retreat on Feb. 12 in Medfield

Ben Speaks is offering “We C.A.R.E.: A Retreat for Grieving Parents and Families” to help provide those who have recently lost a loved one with a safe place to share, express their emotions, and be nurtured in the healing process.

Developed by Judy Giovangelo and her sister Lyndsey Watson, the unique program is limited to 12 participants, and will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Holistic Wellness Center, 67 West Street, Medfield Mass. The retreat fee is on a sliding scale and no one will be turned away; suggested price is $60 per person or $85 per couple.  Register via email at benspeaksvp@gmail.com, or call Judy Giovangelo at 617-592-6715.

The full day program includes gentle hatha yoga, guided meditation, soothing music, group discussion, and a choice of two half-hour wellness treatments ranging from craniosacral, massage, Reiki, reflexology, polarity and sound treatments.

Ben Speaks is a 501c3 nonprofit organization focused on helping families and youth combat the problems of teen suicide and bullying through their C.A.R.E. (Creating Alternative Resources for Expression) program, reinforcing positive change by empowering kids and young adults. The nonprofit also presents speaking programs in schools and community centers, and vibrant concerts for families to share and express their loss and honor those who have died.

“Out of tragedy comes healing and positive change, and we know first-hand how difficult and deeply personal the process is,” said Judy Giovangelo, founder and executive director of the nonprofit. “We are pleased to be able to offer a day of healing, a safe place for those moving through grief to just be themselves and find peace in mind, body and spirit.”

Judy founded Ben Speaks in 2009 after the suicide of her son Ben. Since then the nonprofit has raised $40,000 for providing creative resources for teens and young adults as well as educational programs and workshops that teach awareness, self-responsibility, and self-empowerment. In 2010 Giovangelo was nominated for the Massachusetts Conference for Women's Be the Change Award, and in 2011, she was named Person of the Year by the MetroWest Daily News. Ben Speaks continues to receive grants and recognition for its work and mission.  Find out more about Ben Speaks online at www.benspeaks.org <http://www.benspeaks.org> .
