SOCK HOP DAY AT COA, ON THE OTHER SIDE OF MEDFIELD

July 17 was another great Wednesday at the Center in Medfield. It was sock Hop Wednesday and sponsored by the Medfield Fire department. (Sock hop was an informal sponsored dance at American high schools, typically held in the high school's own gym or cafeteria. The term sock hop came about because dancers were required to remove their hard-soled shoes to protect the varnished floor of the gymnasium -  wikipedia). The program was normal for our typical Wednesday cookout:

  • 2.30          Movie: American Graffiti with Ron Howard
  • 2.30          Learn Ball Room Dancing
  • 4.00          Bingo
  • 4.00          Cocktail Hour
  • 5.00          Cookout (hot dog, salad, macaroni)

5-7.0              Music/Dancing – all kinds: line, slow, waltz, foxtrot, ancient and modern

All Day BOCCE was scheduled for all day but with temperatures in excess on 90 degrees (F) I did not see many people bowling. Attendees were required to dress for the occasion (50’s/60’s) mode. Mr. Tony Centore was the best-dressed male and Mrs. Barbara Foulsham was the best-dressed woman. It was fun to see the 50/60 styles again for those of us who knew the era. Music by Jeff Jarvis was the highlight of the day. The musician took the stage at exactly 5.00 pm and as soon as he started the nodding and foot tapping followed until dinner was served. Dancing and dessert went on together as people danced and on their way back to their seats with their Root beer Float.
