Medfield Council on Aging: The Place to be Next Week

The council has come out with even more exciting programs for fall and the seniors' will once more be rocking and rolling.

During the summer months with cookout, Bocce, sing along, and other activities many Medfield seniors were sad to see the summer go.

The question was how could such fun times be replaced and by what? By who? It was as if the seniors would have to go into hibernation until the summer of 2013 arrives. But do not despair. The Council on Aging did not go to sleep!

The council has come out with even more exciting programs for fall and the seniors’ will once more be rocking and rolling.

For starters next Tuesday, the United States Air Force (USAF) Clarinet Trio will be on campus (Council on Aging, One Ice House Road, Medfield, 508-359-3665) for a birthday party for seniors.

The band is stationed at Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford, MA.

According to the COA newsletter, “These outstanding musicians bring audiences of all ages to their feet with sparkling performances of a program featuring something for all musical tastes: Broadway, patriotic, jazz, and folk music, as well original pieces for the clarinet trio”. The birthday party is for all September births, but invitations are for everybody. A $2.50 contribution is suggested, and covers a sumptuous three course lunch and music and dancing. Conversations are also free. Please join and wish the seniors a happy birthday.

Their ages would range from late 60’s to 90’s or even higher.

Also next week there is an open house on September 19, (4.30 – 6.30). Meet the COA staff and instructors. You will learn about a host of activities sponsored by COA from exercises to music, to needle work, to beginner’s bridge, quilting, and art, among others. You may discover an interest in a new hobby. You may even make a friend.

There are plans for trips such as shopping  (Market Basket, K Mart, Kohl’s, and Burger King). Transportation to and fro from the senior Center is always provided free of charge to residents but sometimes a $3.00 charge is suggested for out of town trips.

Oh just one more thing! It is time to sign up for snow removal. If a senior needs help with snow removal from the walkway and/or driveway, well, the Council would try to find a benevolent resident who could help. Yes, winter is still far away but the center needs time to arrange for volunteers. So sign up immediately. And then relax and wait for the snows to come down.

There is indeed something to do in Medfield contrary to what the young say.
