Albert B. Lester Disc Golf Tournament a Huge Success

Over 100 people attended the Albert B. Lester Disc Golf Tournament, which raised more than $1,000 for MCAP. Thank you to Medfield Park & Rec, local sponsors, and volunteers.

On June 8th, friends and families came out to Hospital Hill Fields in Medfield, MA to play Frisbee-disc golf and enjoy beach-themed games, wearing their Hawaiian attire for this beach-themed charity event. The Albert B. Lester Memorial Disc Golf Tournament was an outstanding success, with over 100 people attending and 15 teams competing on the course.

Because of the community's support, we raised over $1,000 to support Medfield Cares About Prevention. Overall, participants really enjoyed the 9-hole disc golf course, and many people stayed for the whole day to play volleyball, Kan Jam, and other Frisbee games. Food was provided from the Hot Dog Wagon, and Albert's mom (my grandmom) brought a batch of her own homemade cookies.

I would like to give an immense thank you to our volunteers. Samantha Beckwith and Melody Chen, volunteering as part of MCAP, were incredibly helpful in running the registration table all day. I could not have done it without Stephen Dove, who was ready to help in whatever way needed, from start to finish. Jake Lester and Sarah Spencer were instrumental in making the tournament run smoothly.

Rob Tatro, local disc golf expert and VP of NEFA, provided invaluable advice in designing the course and how to run a disc golf tournament, as well as generously donating some team prizes. Jim Snyder of Medfield Parks & Rec, who suggested a Disc Golf event in the first place, gave me everything I needed to make it happen. He was always there to answer my questions. Besides providing the free discs, he kept me on track and made sure the tournament would be successful.

Finally, thank you to our sponsors: Needham Bank, Blue Moon, and Thomas Family Dental. Their monetary support helped fund the idea. Top finishers received gift cards to Noon Hill Grill, Blue Moon, Zebra’s, and Donut Express. Top teams received Hawaiian-themed gimmicks. Medfield Park & Rec, local sponsors, and volunteers helped make this event run smoothly, but I would also like to thank the community for their support. Your registration money will go towards educating the community about the dangers of drunk driving and substance abuse.
