Zullo Gallery Offering Summer Art Classes

The Zullo Gallery on Main Street is offering summer art classes in July and August.

Beginning Monday, July 11, the on Main Street will be offering summer art classes for students in grades one through seven. All classes will be taught by Kurt Jackson, who, according to the Zullo Gallery, "is a professional artist and storyteller." Jackson currently teaches at the Medfield After School Program (MAP).  

There will be four sessions offered and each session costs $150. Students will be eligible for courses depending on what grade they will be entering in the fall 2011. Here's a description of the following courses being offered:

Fun With Watercolors (For students in grades 1 through 4)

  • Date: Monday, July 11 to Friday, July 15
  • Time: 9 to 11:30 a.m.
  • Instructor: Kurt Jackson
  • Description: This class will help students learn how to paint with watercolors. Areas of instruction will include mixing and blending colors, different types of paper, wet and dry painting and a variety of brush techniques. The focus will be on still life and landscapes as well as design and figure painting. 

Art Explorations; Drawing / Mixed Media (For students in grades 1 through 4)

  • Date: Monday July 18 to Friday, July 22
  • Time: 9 to 11:30 a.m.
  • Instructor: Kurt Jackson
  • Description: This class will combine drawing skills - from beginner to advanced - with a wide variety of media. Each child will have the opportunity to develop their artistic skills at their own pace with individual instruction in a small group setting. 

Artist Studio (For students in grades four through seven)

  • Date: Monday, July 25 to Friday, July 29
  • Time: 9 to 11:30 a.m. 
  • Instructor: Kurt Jackson
  • Description: Students will be free to choose from a variety of mediums: i.e. drawing, painting, scratchboard, mixed media, etc. and a variety of subjects, i.e., cartoon figures, landscapes, collage, still life, portraits etc. to develop their artistic skills in a small group setting with individual guidance from the instructor. 

Cartoons and Clay / Drawing and Building

  • Date: Monday, Aug. 8 to Friday, Aug. 12
  • Time: 9 to 11:30 a.m. 
  • Instructor: Kurt Jackson
  • Description: This class will help students learn how to develop form, texture, shading and positive and negative space by using techniques with charcoal and pencil while using some of their favorite cartoon figures as subjects. The students will focus on cartoon drawing as well as proportions of the human body. Caricature drawing will also be touched upon. In addition, students will have the opportunity to bring their drawings into the three dimensional world by building them out of clay.
