Winslet's Medfield Movie, Labor Day, to be Released Next Month

Paramount Pictures has released the trailer for "Labor Day," the Kate Winslet/Josh Brolin movie that includes scenes shot in Medfield.

The trailer for the Hollywood movie filmed in Medfield last year was recently released.

According to Entertainment Weekly, "Labor Day" starring Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin will be released in select theaters on Dec. 31 and nationwide on Jan. 31, 2014.

The Paramount movie is described as a drama that centers on young Henry Wheeler (Dylan Minnette/Tobey Maguire), an adolescent struggling to take care of his reclusive mother, Adele (Winslet), after his father leaves. On a back-to-school shopping trip, they run into Frank Chambers (Brolin), who convinces them to take him home and then reveals himself to be an escaped inmate convicted of murder. The trailer shows that there might be more to Frank’s story than what’s being said in the papers, and soon a romance forms between him and Adele.

In June 2012, Hollywood "reopened" the former Friendly’s restaurant (which had closed in October 2011) for Winslet and Minnette to film a scene.

Other scenes were filmed at Benny’s in Mansfield, Lotus Restaurant in Medway, and Metrowest Medical Center.

The movie, directed by Jason Reitman (who also directed Juno), is based on the book “Labor Day” by Joyce Maynard.
