Summer Comes Early in Medfield

The Medfield High School Jazz Band Ensemble opened MEMO's Summer Concert Series on June 16 at the Gazebo.

Summer may not be officially here until Tuesday, June 21, but it came five days earlier in Medfield as the Medfield High School Jazz Band opened MEMO's 2011 Summer Concert Series at the Gazebo.

The award-winning and nationally recognized jazz band played several tunes from its Charles Mingus competition, which it placed first in and featured several soloists of recently graduated MHS seniors.

Friends, families and children took to the lawn behind the library in front of the Gazebo to hear the musical talents of the band. The musical numbers could be heard around town, from North Street to Curt Schilling Field on Pound Street, where the Medfield American Legion team took on Franklin.

Summer had arrived.

MEMO's annual Summer Concert Series will take place from June 16 through Aug. 18. The 10 concerts will begin at 6 p.m. and are free and open to the public. In addition to enjoying the bands, many concert-goers have fun watching the uninhibited little ones dancing to the music. Family picnics are encouraged through the dinner hour performances.
