Maria, a postulant who is causing the Abbey trouble, is sent off to be governess to a widowed naval Captain's seven troublesome children. Maria teaches them to sing and Captain Von Trapp to love. When the Nazis invade Austria, their happiness is threatened and the whole family is forced to flee over the mountains to Switzerland.
