PHOTO GALLERY: Scenes from Medfield's Green Day

A single photograph often tells a story. Here's our look through the Viewfinder at Medfield's Green Day, held April 30 at the American Legion and organized by the Medfield Green Committee. 

Green Committee chairman, Steve Catanese, defined the event at as "remarkably successful." 

"People got a lot of things cleaned up and the organizations collecting were really happy," Catanese said. "There was a lot of neat stuff going on. At the end of the swap at noon we were overwhelmed."

There were a variety of vendors stationed around the parking lot of the American Legion and a sports swap going inside the Legion Hall. The Department of Public Works was also selling new transfer station stickers at the event and Catanese said that was an overwhelming success. 

"DPW was really happy, I think they did something like 1,500 [Transfer Station] stickers. They were busy," he said. 

Among other notes from Catanese on Green Day, he said the electronics vendor that was there collecting electronics and destroying computer hard drives "was busy" and the vendor "actually donated $330 back to Medfield Green after he covered his expenses for disposal."

The sports equipment swap was a success in the sense throughout the community were able to donate old, used equipment and a worker from one of the vendors was able to take it and put it to good use. 

"At the end [of Green Day], the guy from Boston Materials Resource Center went into [the sports equipment swap] and took everything," Catanese said. "He took all the bats, all the gloves and said they sponsor two teams in the city and he was psyched and grabbed everything basically." 

Overall, Catanese said he thought the American Legion was a great spot for Green Day.

"I thought it went amazingly smooth with the additional vendors," said Catanese. "I think Susan Lynch with Bikes Not Bombs was pretty happy with the number of the bikes they collected and the quality of bikes."
