Montrose School Alum Brings Band to Town for Summer Concert [Video]

Ana Buckley, a Montrose School alum, and the Armstrong Brothers peformed in MEMO's Summer Concert Series on July 7 at the Gazebo in Medfield.

Medfield Center resembled a slice of Americana on July 7 as hundreds of people gathered at the town gazebo to listen to live music, have a picnic and watch children laugh and dance and run around seemingly without a care in the world.

The 10-week concert series is sponsored by MEMO – Medfield Employers and Merchants Organization – and this week featured Ana Buckley and the Armstrong Brothers. Ana is a alumna who impressed the audience with her singing and guitar-playing talents. Other band members included Jim Armstrong, Joe Armstrong, David Prost, Bill Holbrook, and Paul “PJ” Justice. Joe Armstrong explained that member Thomas Buckley was not at Thursday’s concert because he is now on active military duty.

Leanne Harvey of Medfield attended this week’s concert with her young family including three-year-old Grace and six-month-old Fiona.

“This is the second one we’ve been to this year and we came to a couple last year,” said Harvey.  “Our three-year-old loves it; she’s interested in music and in different instruments.”

Grace said she loves to dance to the music and her mother said Grace is often right up in front of the crowd enjoying the music with other dancing children.

Harvey said it is also a nice way to bring the community together.

“There are a lot of families here, so we’ve connected with people that we’ve seen at other activities,” she said.

People brought blankets and chairs, picnics and snacks, friends and family to enjoy two hours of covered and original songs of all types that drifted through the summer air. Original works included a song entitled "Please Turn Your Cell Phone Off," which was written by Joe Armstrong while he was on vacation in the Bahamas.

The July 14 program will feature the Green Apple Kids band, an interactive children’s program, starting at 6 p.m.

If any concert is cancelled because of rain, a family-friendly movie will be shown instead in the library’s lower level meeting room at 6:30 p.m.
