MEMO Summer Concert Series Begins June 16

The Medfield High School Jazz Ensemble will kick-off the Summer Concert Series at the Gazebo.

MEMO, The Medfield Employers and Merchants Organization, is pleased to begin its summer concert series for 2011 at the Gazebo on Thursday, June 16 with the Medfield High School Jazz Ensemble.

This band is the best Medfield has to offer; fresh from a No. 1 win in a jazz competition in New York City in February.  Briarwood Healthcare, a new concert host, will greet jazz enthusiasts at this first of the season.

The group has performed for MEMO in past years but make no mistake, they are not your average big band. They can take credit for performing at Lincoln Center in New York, Boston’ s Hatch Shell and have already produced nine CDs. They come to us from their win in the 2011 Charles Mingus National High School Bigband Competition at the Manhattan School of Music. The musicians reflect grades 9-12 and are under the direction of Doug Olsen. The variety in their performance will please the entire audience and make Medfield proud.

The 10 concerts, from June 16 through Aug. 18, begin at 6 p.m. and are free and open to the public. In addition to enjoying the bands, many concert-goers have fun watching the uninhibited little ones dancing to the music. Family picnics are encouraged through the dinner hour performances.

The 10-week series is supported by The with MEMO member hosts helping to defray the cost of the individual performances. On June 23, the popular ‘Infractions” will return to the Gazebo. This seven member group features “the Happening Horns” with a wide array of popular musical styles including Hip Hop and swing.  The Medfield After School Program (MAP) will be hosts for the evening.

MEMO, which brings this series to the Gazebo, is the local business organization that promotes businesses located in or serving the Medfield Community. It networks, educates and supports its individual member businesses through monthly dinner meetings.  It also believes that it should give back to the community that supports it and does so through seasonal events, of which the summer concert series is one. It offers Medfield Day in the fall (Sept. 17), holiday and Christmas activities in the winter and Medfield History Day in the spring.

It also provides scholarships to graduating seniors at Medfield and Tri-County Regional Vocational High Schools and purchases and hangs the flags on national holidays in the business area to honor local service personnel serving throughout the world. MEMO membership is open to all local businesses and information may be obtained on the website:  www.medfield-memo.org or from Randy Disinger at Wills Hardware.
