Medfield Jazz Night to Feature MHS Jazz Band and 3-Time Grammy Nominee Conrad Herwig

Medfield's annual Jazz Night, presented by Needham Bank, will feature the Medfield High School Jazz Band and Grammy-nominated trombonist Conrad Herwig on May 30 at 7 p.m. in the Lowell Mason Auditorium of Medfield High School.

This year’s Jazz Night, presented by , will feature internationally renowned, three-time Grammy nominee and New York jazz trombonist Conrad Herwig, who will perform with the award-winning jazz band, at the Medfield High School Lowell Mason Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30.

Herwig has performed and recorded with such jazz greats as Miles Davis, Frank Sinatra and Tito Puente. He currently performs with the Mingus Big Band.

The Medfield High School Jazz Band took home the ; earned an ; and is only one of 15 high school jazz bands selected from across the country and Canada to compete at the 2012 at Lincoln Center May 4-6.

Also performing at Jazz Night will be “Jazz 2” – a second jazz band comprised of Medfield High School students, plus the high school jazz choir and the jazz band.

“We’re excited about being the lead sponsor for this year’s Jazz Night,” said Stephen Walls, Medfield branch manager of Needham Bank. “With Conrad Herwig headlining the event, and Medfield’s own award-winning jazz band and other talented students sharing the stage, we know it will be a phenomenal evening. We’re looking forward to presenting a great night of music.”

Group ticket requests (four or more tickets) for Jazz Night can be placed now by sending an e-mail to mail@medfieldmusicassociation.com with information about the number of tickets needed, and contact information, including a street address. The Medfield Music Association will follow up with additional information. Jazz Night tickets are $10 for adults, and $5 for students. Individual tickets will be available at in mid May.

In addition to Needham Bank’s support as a presenting sponsor, Jazz Night sponsors include Clay Family Dealerships and Roche Bros. Jazz Night is also supported in part by a grant from the Medfield Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. A portion of Jazz Night sponsorship dollars will cover expenses associated with the Medfield High School Jazz Band’s trip to the Essentially Ellington competition.
