Medfield High's Jazz Band Opens MEMO's Summer Concert Series Thursday

The Medfield High School jazz band will perform in the first summer concert of MEMO's series at the Gazebo park adjacent from the Medfield Public Library Thursday at 6 p.m.

What better way to kick-off another summer in Medfield than with a summer concert and picnic at the Gazebo Park adjacent from the Medfield Public Library?

MEMO's, The Medfield Employers and Merchants Organization, annual summer concert series returns to Medfield this Thursday with the performance of an award-winning band.

The Medfield High School jazz ensemble will open the summer concert series with a performance this Thursday. The group was invited to compete in the Charles Mingus and Essentially Ellington High School Big Band competitions this spring in New York and recently performed at its annul Jazz Night at the high school. They should be well-practiced and warmed up to open the 10-week series at the gazebo. The group is led by Doug Olsen and has just released its 10th CD.

Needham Bank is the corporate sponsor for MEMO's Summer Concert Series this year. The host for the evening will be Briarwood Healthcare.

Each week a new band, featuring a different genre will appear at the gazebo, hosted by MEMO members and friends. The location, in the park adjacent to the library, is ideal for family picnics and there is plenty of space for the kids. The concerts are free to the public. MEMO makes a concerted effort to try to attract bands that are in some way connected or related to Medfield.

Unfortunately bands are at the disposition of the weather and there are no make-up dates scheduled in the event of rain cancellations. The Medfield Library, however, has offered to host a family movie starting at 6 p.m. in event of rain. Notices of cancellations will be posted on MEMO’s website www.medfieldmemo.org and on Medfield.TV’s website www.medfield.tv and Medfield Patch.

Ana Buckley and the Armstrong Brothers will be the second in the series on June 21 with Montrose School hosting the evening. The band features Montrose alumna Ana on lead vocals and guitar as they play country, classic acoustic and children’s favorites.

MEMO is the business organization that comprises businesses located in or serving the Medfield community. It offers the summer concerts annually free to the community and then swings into its fall fair at which merchants and civic and service organizations rent exhibit space to promote themselves to fairgoers. Many of its seasonal events such as Discover Medfield Day and the summer concerts and Christmas tree lighting and Santa parade are free and open to the public.
