Lowell Mason Foundation to Celebrate Successful Move of Lowell Mason House with Concert

The Lowell Mason Foundation has announced a "Celebration Concert" for the to take place on Sunday, May 22 at 2 p.m. at , 133 Spring St.

The concert will feature the Handel and Haydn Society’s Young Men’s Chorus as well as the Medfield High School Concert Choir.  In addition Boston-based composer and guitarist Mark Small, pianist/singer-songwriter Anne Marie David, Music Director of St. Edward Church, and Medfield High School violinist Stephen Krawec will perform.

“We are extremely excited about the participation of Boston’s Handel and Haydn Society through their Young Men’s Chorus,” said Karen Scotti, CEO of the Lowell Mason Foundation.  “Lowell Mason compiled the Handel and Haydn Society Hymnal in 1822 and became the Society’s President in 1827. When our Foundation first began the work to save Lowell Mason’s birthplace, Handel and Haydn sent a letter of support for our efforts and later connected us with their Music Education Program resulting in their participation in this joyful event. The fact that the Medfield High School Concert Choir is performing as well continues the strong connection between Medfield and the city of Boston.”

This is not the first Foundation event featuring performers from both Medfield and Boston. 

At the on April 2nd, musicians from the Boston Latin School performed with the Medfield Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble.  The , considered the Father of Music Education in America’s public schools. Mason was born in Medfield in 1792.  His birthplace, recently saved from demolition, was moved to 59 Green St. in Medfield on April 19th, where it will now undergo restoration. This concert is in celebration of the move.

The suggested donation at the door is $5 for adults; $10 for families.  All proceeds will benefit the Lowell Mason Foundation in their efforts to restore the house.
