Medfield High's Annual Jazz Night

If you can't get to the famed New Orleans Jazz Festival this year, you can get a taste of it in Medfield.

The Medfield High School's annual Jazz Night concert will be held tonight at the High School beginning at 7 pm.

The years event features guest performer and trumpeter Alex Sipiagin in a warm-up for his New Orleans appearance with the Mingus Big Band.

Tunes expected to be in the line-up that night include “Decoupage” and “Georgia on my Mind.”

Sipiagin will spend the school day conducting jazz workshops with students, followed by a guest performance during the concert. His visit is made possible through funds raised by the Medfield Music Association through ticket sales and the organization's annual Spaghetti with Santa event.

Medfield's Jazz Band I has had a memorable year, winning a national title in the high school division of the Charles Mingus big band competition in New York City in February. Following the performance, Justin DiCioccio, Assistant Dean and Chair of Manhattan School of
Music’s Jazz Arts Program said, “The level of playing was remarkable and the best that I have ever heard at the high school level.”

The high school jazz choir and jazz band II will also perform at the Lowell Mason Auditorium at Medfield High for Jazz Night.

Tickets are $10 for general admission, $5 for students and seniors, and are available at Lord's Department Store. Proceeds support music programs in all of Medfield schools. For more information, see medfieldmusicassociation.com.
