Art'n Bloom to Brighten the Medfield Public Library

This year's edition of Art'n Bloom will bring a brighter and bolder touch of spring to the Medfield Public Library March 16-19.

For the past 10 years, Art’n Bloom – a joint effort between the Medfield Garden Club and the Medfield High School art department, has brought an early touch of spring to the Medfield Public Library.

This year’s edition, brighter and bolder than ever, will be held from Wednesday, March 16 through Saturday, March 19.

The festival of innovative student art and fresh flowers is presented by members of the Garden Club and the art faculty of Medfield High School.  Approximately two dozen drawings, paintings and collages will be interpreted in flowers and spread across the library for four days.

Meg Drew and Kate Jones of the Medfield High School art faculty choose representative works from art classes in grades 9-12. Members of the Garden Club then select the works that inspire them and create floral arrangements which capture the color, movement, and dynamic of that art.

“I never stop being amazed at the result,” said Garden Club President Debbie Gaines. “Every year, I think I’ve seen interpretations that can’t be topped and every year, I’m proven wrong.  There’s no limit to the imagination and energy put into the art work and arrangements.”

Meg Drew, an art teacher at Medfield High School said the annual event is a favorite among students as well.

“It’s another opportunity for students to get a wide showing of their work in the community, and to see the work translated into a different creative medium.  My students love to see their art paired with flowers.”

Art’n Bloom Chairman Loretta Carrigan added that Art’n Bloom provides a welcome burst of color at the end of winter.  “This is an event our members look forward to,” she said. “March is a cruel month in New England.  The calendar says it’s spring, but there’s nothing yet to show for it.  For four days, we bring a sense of a garden make the Medfield Library at one of the dreariest times of the year.”

The Medfield Garden Club meets at 10 a.m. on the second Wednesday of each month at the on Main Street.  The meeting is open to visitors and prospective members; there is no charge to attend meetings as a guest.
