You Ask, Patch Answers: Low-flying Planes?

Did you see the military planes flying over Medfield last weekend?

Were you shocked to see unmarked low-flying planes over Medfield on Saturday?

MedfieldPatch asked Police Chief Bob Meaney to explain.

Apparently, Gillette Stadium is now home turf to the University of Massachusetts football team and Saturday was the Minutemen's opening game against the Indiana Hoosiers.

Meaney said the C-5 Air Force planes (which were discreetly marked) were carrying UMass ROTC alumni and flew over the stadium to kick off the new season.

The very loud planes flew over Medfield about six times around 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The game started at 3:30 p.m. and had a final score of Indiana 45, UMass 6, according to boston.sbnation.com

Meaney said the town often sees part of Gillette Stadium air shows because Medfield is in their flight pattern.
