Weekend Planner: Sept. 16-18

Town fairs, celebrations and a road race are on the calendar this weekend.

The weekend is just around the corner. If the only plans you have are not to stay home because lounging on the couch and watching TV just don’t cut it anymore, then don't worry, Medfield Patch is here to assist you! Check out our list of suggestions of events to attend, places to go, sites to see – all within driving distance of home. 

1. Drama Kids Fall Program Starts in Medfield

Where/When: , 124 North St, Medfield; Friday, Sept. 16, 1 to 5:45 p.m.

Why Go: The fall session of Drama Kids is starting in Medfield Friday.

  • Kinder Kids, 1 p.m.
  • Acting Academy, 2:45 p.m.
  • Lower Primary, 3:45 p.m.
  • Upper Primary, 4:45 p.m.

2.  Medfield Day 5K: Raising Physically and Financially Fit Kids

When/Where: , 124 North St, Medfield; Saturday, Sept. 17, 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Why Go: Participate in the Medfield Day 5K or 1K Fun Run for Kids at Medfield Day to help support programs at the Medfield Parks and Recreation Department. Lace up your sneakers and put your family, friends, and neighbors to the challenge for a good cause. Come together as a community to make this year’s race the biggest Medfield Day 5k to date and show your passion for physical wellbeing, while also helping to bring opportunities to the town’s youth.

Pricing: $20 pre-registration, $25 race day registration.

3.  32nd Annual Medfield Day

Where/When: 0 Frairy St., Medfield; Saturday, Sept. 17, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Why Go: This social event of the year consists of over 100 booths highlighting Medfield's local businesses, professionals, churches, schools and organizations.

This year’s theme is Medfield Treasures. In order to find the treasures, scattered around the fair grounds, visitors must pick up a bingo type card that has rows of names of treasures to find and have verified. There will be two age divisions, for 12-17 year-old winners, the prize is a $25 gift card to the Blue Moon. For adults 18 years and older the prize will be a Noon Hill Grill gift card valued at $50.

For all players, the prize is the fun of finding the treasures on your card. Not every card will be the same and cards will be available at the MEMO booth when the fair begins at 9 a.m. 

Other activities will include an entertainment stage, rides and a food court, which includes sausages and hotdogs prepared by the Beckwith Post American Legion and the Medfield Fire Department. 

The fall fair, located around Meeting House Pond, is free and open to the public and is a rain or shine event.

Pricing: Free admision.

4. Medfield Farmers' Day

 Where/When: Norfolk Hunt Club, Medfield; Sunday, Sept. 18, 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Why Go: The Norfolk Hunt Club is sponsoring the Ninth Annual Polo in the Country for a day of fun, entertainment, and celebration open to the community. The activity takes place on the Steeplechase Course at 240 North S.t, Medfield. Proceeds are for the purpose of preservation and protection of recreational space in Medfield, Dover, Sherborn and surrounding communities. A six chukka polo match between the Norfolk Hunt and Dedham Polo teams will be played by three players and horses from each team

Pricing: Free, open to all. 

5. 2011 Sherborn Grange Fair

Where/When: 0 Western Ave, Sherborn; Saturday, Sept. 17, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: All are invited to the Sherborn Grange Fair, which will take place at the Barber Reservation. The Sherborn Grange Fair is a harvest celebration, free to all, which brings the town's community together to celebrate and appreciate its natural and agricultural resources. Residents have the opportunity to showcase their skills, which will be judged through judging competitions in a variety of categories, which includes but is not limited to: Vegetables, Fruit, Flowers, Preserves, Baked Goods, Crafts and Art.

The fair will include activities and entertainment suited for the whole family:

  • Live Music by: Group Therapy, Something with Digby and Woodland Theater.
  • Visit with Farm Animals
  • Watch Equestrian Demonstrations
  • Kids Pet Show
  • Games
  • Hayrides
  • Pony Rides
  • Antique Farm Equipment on Display

Food: A barbecue with hamburgers, hotdogs, Salad Wraps, Chips, Dessert & Watermelon will be available.

A series of speakers are lined up to discuss:

  • Composting
  • Why Organic Food
  • The Natural Landscape
  • Birds in the Backyard
  • Raising Sheep in Sherborn

An Auction will also be held under the tent beginning at 2:30 p.m.
