Weekend Planner: Oct. 14-16

A Night of Blues, House Of Horrors and Historical Homes are on the calendar this weekend.

The weekend is just around the corner. If the only plans you have are not to stay home because lounging on the couch and watching TV just don’t cut it anymore, then don't worry, Medfield Patch is here to assist you! Check out our list of suggestions of events to attend, places to go, sites to see – all within driving distance of home. 

1. The Sherborn Inn Presents Lois Greco. 

When/Where: The Sherborn Inn, 33 North Main St., Sherborn; Friday, Oct. 14, 9 p.m.

Why Go: Winner of the “Outstanding Female Singer” in the Blues Audience 6th Annual Reader’s Poll Awards, Lois Greco and her band promises of memorable evening of the blues. More information on Lois can be found at www.loisgreco.com.

2. Orpheum House of Horrors

Where/When: The , 1 School St., Foxboro; Friday and Saturday nights 7 to 10 p.m.

Why Go: Looking for a good scare this Halloween season? The Orpheum House of Horrors promises to delight and scare audiences of all ages. The main theatre features classic thrillers while the production team at the Orpheum Theatre Foxboro haunt and scare unexpected guests throughout the haunted house.

3. Powisset Farm Stand at Rocky Woods

Where/When: Rocky Woods, 50 Hartford St., Medfield; Saturday, Oct. 15, 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Why Go: Powisset Farm is a Community Supported Agriculture Farm (CSA) in Dover. Check out the weekend farm stand at Rocky Woods Reservation on Hartford Street in Medfield. Farm fresh vegetables are available for purchase along with a chance to meet your local farmers. Learn about local and seasonal eating and explore community connections.

4. Historic Caryl House and Fisher Barn Open House

Where/When: , 107 Dedham St., Dover; Saturday, Oct. 15, 1 to 4 p.m.

Why Go: The Dover Historical Society invites you to visit the The 1777 Caryl House and Fisher Barn, located at  107 Dedham St, during their open house season every Saturday from September 3 through November 26th.

Take a step back into history and see how The Reverend Benjamin Caryl and his family lived in 18th century Dover following the American Revolution. The Fisher Barn holds the Historical Society's collection of farm tools highlighting Dover's agricultural past.

The 1906 Sawin Museum, located at 80 Dedham St will also be open on Saturdays, 1-4 PM. Come and see the new exhibits.

5. Intro Into Birding at Broadmoore Wildlife Sanctuary

Where/When: Broadmoore Wildlife Sanctuary, 280 Eliot Street, Natick; Sunday, October 16, 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Why Go: Bird watching is becoming a very popular activity for adults and families.  This intro class will teach you more about the many local birds in our area as well as their songs.  You will also learn how to use binoculars and where the local bird watching hotspots are.
