Weekend Planner: Theatre, Mother Day's Events and Flowers

Here's a look at the weekend ahead for May 11-13.

Mother's day weekend is only a couple days away and there's plenty going on arond the area this weekend. Check out our list of suggestions of events to attend, places to go, sites to see – all within driving distance of home. 

1.  Sherborn Inn Mother's Day Brunch / Dinner & Horse Drawn Carriage Rides  

Where/When: 33 N. Main St., Sherborn; Sunday May 13, 10:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Why Go: The Sherborn Inn will be serving a Mother's Day brunch buffet between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. followed by a dinner buffet from 2 to 5 p.m.  Horse drawn carriage rides, provided by Capital Whips and Hack Livery of So. Natick, will be available between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Each ride will last approx. 15 mins. No reservations required. Reservations are required for dining.

Pricing: Horse drawn carriages cost $20 per ride; please call the Sherborn Inn at 508-655-9521 for buffet prices and reservations.

2. The Woodland Theatre Company presents the musical "Guys and Dolls"

Where/When: , at the Lowell Mason Auditorium, 88r South St., Medfield; Fri., May, 11, 8 p.m.; Sat., May 12, 8 p.m. and Sun., May, 13, 2 p.m.

Why Go: "Guys and Dolls," a comedy musical tale set in New York City in the mid 20th Century, explores what happens between gambling men and gangsters and the showgirls and missionary dolls who desire to tame them.  "Guys and Dolls" is based on the Music and Lyrics by Frank Loesser; Book by Jo Swerling & Abe Burrows; Directed by Doug Hodge and Music Direction by Chris Holownia.

3. The Dover Foundation Presents "The Music Man"

Where/When: 9 Junction St., Dover; Fri., May, 11 & Saturday, May 11 at 7:30 p.m.

Why Go: Winner of numerous Tony Awards, the Music Man is known for such musical hits including "76 Trombones,” “Trouble,” “Marian” and “Gary Indiana.”  This Broadway hit features an 18-piece orchestra, local actors, dancing girls, and band uniforms.

4. Norwood Historical Society Mother's Day Tea Fundraiser

Where/When: 93 Day St., Norwood; Sat., May, 12 from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Why Go: Treat Mom to an elegant afternoon featuring special tours of the Day House, live music, a selection of teas, finger sandwiches and a variety of dessert items from Norwood local restaurants.

Pricing: Both individual tickets of $10.00 per person, or an optional $25.00 Tea-lover's Gift Package/ Entry combo ticket are available at in Norwood and at the Day House.

4. Annual Mother’s Day Plant Sale

Where/When: , 28 Pleasant St., Medfield; Sat., May, 12 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Why Go: The Church of the Advent annual Mother’s Day Plant Sale features beautiful geraniums, annuals, herbs, vegetables and hanging baskets from Mahoney’s of Winchester.  Proceeds benefit The Red Thread Promise and Camp Jake, an outreach project to help children from St. Vincent's Center for Handicapped Children in Haiti attend summer camp.
